Radio Snehi

Vision: To give more and more information of government policies / non-government schemes to bring better life style of the rural and urban people through education, agriculture, health and other social issues.

Mission: To gather the community to express their ideas knowledge as well as problems freely. The community thinks that this Community Radio Station is their own. We also train them for radio programming and through entrepreneurship programmes to stand on their own feet.

Our NGO members decided to do something new on different social issues since we were running many developmental programmes in the community. But there was no powerful tool to address the problems of society that were ignored by stakeholders. The marganilised people were not getting their rights and they did not know about the different government policies. When we heard about Community Radio Stations and the opportunity it provides, we understood that this tool suited our needs.

Content is yet to be updated by the station.

Signature Programme: Krishi Choupal, a programme on agriculture, farming and animal husbandry has been the Community Radio’s established signature programmes. A new programme, Dopahariya Ke Khayals, was introduced when 23 children died following their mid-day meal in a government school of Gandaman. The government seemed helpless, unable to control the mayhem. The problem got compounded when some miscreants poisoned drinking water sources in schools to create further havoc.

Funding and Participation Radio Snehi is supported actively by NGO Snehi. Besides, it has partnership with various self-help groups. Funding comes from member's contribution and from our NGO and the women self-help groups. Government advertisement through DAVP and some local advertisement are also important resources.

After we broadcasted a programme on the Mahatma Gandhi Gramin Rojgar Guarantee Yojana (MGNREGA) elucidating the guidelines of the scheme, MGNREGA beneficiary labourers began demanding their rights. Some labourers approached Snehi complaining that stakeholders are not providing facilities and could then approach the government authorities. After some days, they returned to say that they were able to avail of their entitlements.
