Kisan Credit Card (KCC) (Hindi)

This programme provides information about the Kisan Credit Card to the farmers. The Government of India introduced Kisan Credit Card Scheme (KCC) which aims at providing adequate and timely support from the banking system to the farmers for their short-term credit needs for cultivation of crops. This mainly helps farmer for purchase of inputs etc., during the cropping season. Credit card scheme proposed to introduce flexibility to the sytem and improve cost efficiency.

Mission & Vission

<p>The radio station&rsquo;s vision is to use modern and traditional media and communication technologies for developing new paradigms for social transformation. Radio Mewat also works to ensure community participation, collective engagement, and creative praxis to strengthen the idea of hope and to raise self esteem.</p>

Genesis

<p>When the government of Haryana decided to stop funding NGOs, SMART decided to apply for a license and develop an entity for the community that could become self sustainable and promote the agenda of the community rather than that of the government.&nbsp;</p>

Thematic Focus

Radio Mewat is run by SMART NGO. It broadcasts for eleven hours in the day between 8:00 am – 1:00 pm, 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm on 90.4 MHz frequency.

Faayede ki Baat Narration/ anecdotes/ success stories and interviews We have produced on 200 programmes on FI, which cover all aspects of linking the community with financial services like opening bank accounts, Kisan credit cards, SHGs, JLGs, etc.
Panch aur Panchayat Drama We have prepared 21 episodes in fictional format with information on PRIs.
Gaon Gaon Ki Baat Narration and bytes Every day cover a different village and with its historical background build the profile of the village.
Khet aur Khaliyan Talk show We have a talk show with extension workers/experts in the field of agriculture, horticulture/floriculture/ sericulture/crops/seeds/etc.

Programme

<p>Signature Programme: GaonGaonkiBaat; Hamaro Raj Panchayati Raj: SamjhokinaSamjho Community Participation: Since 90 per cent of the programmes are community-based and are produced with the engagement of the community every possible method is used and is being explored. For instance, the open door policy of the station enables walk-in guests, who contribute to the content. Innovations in format An innovative exercise has been to get the police department to use the radio station to address issues pertaining to women on priority and also to resolve long pending civil cases. Radio Mewat has been attempting to fix a day with the SP, DC and departmental heads to address issues live. Membership drives and forming Radio MewatMitras along with recording one message from the member is a popular innovation.</p>

Partnership & Funding

<p>Funding and Partnerships: Infrastructure has been provided by UNESCO and SMART. We also get funding from Government advertisements, sponsored programs, local advertisement, action based pilot projects. In the future, we hope for an increase in advertisements from DAVP and put in a component of Radio broadcast in all projects of SMART.</p>

Impact & Stories

<p>Radio Mewat recently launched a programme on Powering Democracy through Panchayats: This has created a wave of excitement in the community. Groups of people have been putting pressure on the Sarpanch to hold Gram Sabha meetings. The people have called to say that they were not aware of the role of the Panchayats earlier.</p> <p>Our health programmes help people. For instance, a mother who was seeing a quack was informed of the dis-advantages by listening to a radio show and decided to approach a doctor at Mandikheda hospital for her daughter&rsquo;s treatment.</p> <p>Radio Mewat won National Community Radio Award - 2013 for innovative programming.</p>
