Status of women in Nepal - Celebrating women's day (Nepali)

It is written in the old scriptures that wherever a woman is worshiped God is present there. A woman is the life giver in this planet. In this radio programme one gets to hear how Women’s Day is celebrated in Nepal and how the NGOs there are working towards bringing equality in both the sexes. This is the day where women from across the globe get together and share various stories and valuable information. In the country of Nepal though there is equal rights given to both men and women, in reality it is totally different. Women are always seen as a weaker section and mostly women suffer in every step of life

Benefits of composite manure (Nepali)

Nepal is an agricultural country and most of its people are engaged in agriculture be it in the Himalayas or in the low lying plains. It is seen that use of chemical manure has brought down the agricultural production in the recent years. The introduction of compost manure in the recent years has brought certain changes and has increased the yield. Places which were unfertile now are giving a good yield because of the use of compost manure. A short play in this programme speaks for itself. Composte is well rotted organic manure prepared by decomposition of organic matter. Composed is prepared from waste materials like vegetable refuse, farm litter such as weeds, bhusa, sugarcane trash, sewage sludge and animal wastes. More awareness is needed and NGOs and village knowledge centres has been successful in some certain extent to create awareness

Use of alternate Resources (Nepali)

This programme speaks about the use of alternate resources like solar, hydro, wind and bio gobar gas in the villages of Nepal. Nepal has a great potential of hydro electricity and it’s considered one of the richest nation in regard to hydro electricity production. Information and benefit of use of Bio gas and Gobar gas are given so that one can easily distinguish the different alternative resources available.

Eliminating child labour (Nepali)

It is estimated that there are approximately 26 lakhs children who are working as child labourers in Nepal and 80% of it is concentrated in the southern part of the country. The short drama shows how a poor family sends their young son to work in a hotel to earn more money. The young lad is given loads of work in the hotel by the owner. Since the boy is young and innocent he is also sent to the owner’s house for more work after the hotel job.

One day a school teacher happens to stop by that tea shop and sees the young boy working. Surprised by the boys age the teacher then takes the boy along with to her to her school and threatens the tea owner of legal actions against him. This programme clearly indicated that awareness on Child Labour is very essential to eliminate it from the society.

Telecentres and its role in the rural villages (Nepali)

This programme speaks of a two day meeting organized by OneWorld South Asia and FIT Nepal for the knowledge coordinators of twelve Tele Centres in Kathmandu.  Mr. Ramesh Adhakari from UNDP Nepal and Mr. Nirmal Riazwal from Equal Access shared their point of view in this meeting.

The main debate in this meeting was achieving the Millennium Development Goals with the help of Rural Tele Centres. What are the necessary strategies and steps to be followed by the Tele Centres were also discussed.  Apart from providing telephone services, fax, internet and photocopy Tele Centres were told to build their capacity in imparting valuable information to the villagers on health, Government Schemes, and their Rights.

Nepal though small in size has a very rich culture. It is well known in the world as Land of Temples. This can be seen if one visits Katmandu where we get to see temples everywhere. The artistic carving in the temples and palaces in Nepal shows that the early people were very skillful in artistry. Even today this skill is passed down to the next of kin.

Here there are different types of people who live in the high Himalayas and some in the lowlands, though there is a difference they live together in harmony and share their happiness. This programme also highlights the rich Nepali tradition.

Role of information communication and technology during Nepal Bandh (Nepali)

The far flung villages in Nepal are totally cut off from information during bandh in Nepal. The information not only reaches the villages through radio but also through print media. The knowledge centres in the villagers which acts as vital lifelines in imparting information gets affected during the bandh.

 News papers which are mostly printed in towns and cities cannot reach the far flung villagers during bandh and they are deprived of information. The information not only involves current news but information on health, Government schemes and development issues which cannot reach common people.

Awareness on dowry system (Nepali)

 Still today Dowry System is prevalent in Nepal. It is considered as one of the oldest tradition which needs to be followed by everyone there. People have now realized how harmful Dowry System is to the family and the society. It not only snatches happiness from the families but even innocent lives.
This radio programmes shows how the new generation in Nepal is fighting against Dowry System. The short play in the programme shows how a boy refuses to accept dowry and threatens to cancel his marriage. This incident opens his parent’s eyes and they too finally agree against Dowry system.

Population and pollution walks hand in hand in Nepal (Nepali)

It is seen that population and pollution is growing side by side in Nepal. In recent years in the pretext of development there has been increase in the pollution level there. Nepal has seen a significant growth in the automobile industry, and chemical industry which are the main causes of pollution.
People of Nepal have already started facing the consequences in the form of rapidly growing ill health of its people there. NGOs have been little successful in creating awareness using less pollution devices in our day to day life. In this programme it is also discussed that the government has already started commissioning electric and gas public transport vehicles and would be slowly phasing out cars and taxis using petrol and diesel in the near future.

Role of knowledge centres and rise in overseas employment (Nepali)

It is been observed that there is a certain rise in overseas employment in Nepal. People tend to move out from Nepal in search of greener pastures in life. It is here that the knowledge centres in the villages plays a vital role.
Apart from the facility of internet, computer basic education, photocopy etc Knowledge Centres impart valuable and genuine information to its people about the rules and process. A short play shows how an innocent person is cheated by a tout in pretext of sending him abroad to work in a good organization.
