Mission & Vission

<p>Radio Banasthali aims at providing an avenue for the free flow of beneficial information aimed at bringing about socio economic changes in the society by opening up possibilities especially of the marginalised sections and to enable them to express themselves socially, economically, culturally and spiritually in order to better their lives. <br />Radio Banasthali&rsquo;smission serves as a catalyst for integral development of individuals and societies.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

Genesis

<p>Prior to the inception of Banasthali University in 1935, the villages in the region were deprived of basic amenities, let alone literacy. The Community Radio Station was set up to fulfil the university&rsquo;s objectives of promoting self-reliance through the khadi movement, medical relief, social and political awakeningto bring out girls from their homes to provide them education.</p>

Thematic Focus

Radio Banasthali @90.4 MHz known as Aapno Radio broadcasts its programmes for 12 hours daily between 7:00 am – 11:00 am; 12:00 – 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

Gramin Jagat Live phone-in Interaction with the agricultural experts in studio on every aspect and problem, with farmers and through phone in, discuss their problems or issues relevant to agricultural practices.
Gaon-gaon Dhani-dhani Field interviews Our volunteers reach the community and interviews regarding developmental and administrative problems facing them are recorded.
Kaam ki Batan Discussion
(studio based)		 The community anchors discuss the issues like personal hygiene, cleanliness, draining system, girl education, pollution, etc.
Seedhi Batan Interviews
(studio based)		 Interaction with Sarpanch or Panch on their commitments and planning
Algoja Folk songs Preserving and promoting the local talent through folk songs on folk deities.

Programme

<p>Signature Programmes: GraminJagat,Gaon-gaon-Dhani-dhani,KaamkiBatan,SeedhiBatanAlgoja,Aapnagaonribatan. Community Participation: Around 200 community volunteers have been trained in radio workshops for further engagement with the radio station as programme coordinators, script writers, anchors and producers. Round-table discussions are held with community volunteers to involve communities in the production of quality programmes. Innovations in Format: Live phone-in, interactive and informal style, and field interviews.</p>

Partnership & Funding

<p>Funding and Partnerships: Radio Banasthali has ensured linkages with faculties of the university, KVKs,hospitals, and NGOs of Tonk district. Partnerships have also been forged with other national and international agencies like CEMCA, UNICEF, DST, OneWorld South Asia, and Community Radio Association of India.</p>

Impact & Stories

<p>We are observing a change in the mindset of people seeing them get socially more active, responsible and develop an alert view towards health, nutrition, personal hygiene, and environment. Some role models were created of individuals and communities that promote sustainable lifestyles. <br />The involvement of the local community in the making of the programmes also impacted the volunteers associated with Radio Banasthali. <br />Community anchor and RJKajodmalGurjar, says:&ldquo;After joining Radio Banasthali my confidence has considerably increased.&rdquo;</p>
