Tuberculosis is a contagious disease caused by various strains of mycobacteria. Tuberculosis typically attacks lungs, but can also affect other parts of the body. It spreads through air when people who have an active TB infection, cough, sneeze, or otherwise transmit their saliva through air. General signs and symptoms of TB include fever, chills, night sweats, loss of appetite, weight loss, and fatigue, and significant finger clubbing may also occur.
