World Food Day: AMARC calls for radio programmes

01-Sep-2011

On the occasion of World Food Day (October 16, 2011) AMARC invites radio broadcasters and producers to share their radio programmes under the theme of Food Prices – From Crisis to Stability. Final deadline to send radio programmes is October 11, 2011.

Price swings, upswings in particular, represent a major threat to food security in developing countries. Hardest-hit are the poor. According to the World Bank, in 2010-2011 rising food costs pushed nearly 70 million people into extreme poverty.

"Food prices – from crisis to stability" has been chosen as this year’s World Food Day theme to shed some light on this trend and what can be done to mitigate its impact on the most vulnerable.

In partnership with the FAO, AMARC calls all the community radios members of our network to produce and broadcast programs on their communities on October 16, 2011 and share them with the entire AMARC network via our website on this campaign against hunger. You can not only produce a program under this year’s theme, your program may also, for example, focus on how your communities fight higher food prices locally, or what causes food prices to explode and what are the solutions. On October 16, 2011 let the world know what your community thinks about this important issue and let all member of AMARC unite to contribute to reduce and stabilize food prices.

Please let us know if your radio will produce programs and share your productions.

Final deadline to send radio programmes: October 11, 2011
