PU community radio, called Jyotirgamaya, celebrated its second anniversary. As every school student knows, jyotir gamaya is Sanskrit , “lead me to light”. At PU, it’s Jyotirgmaya 91.2 MHZ, Padho aur Padhao.
The station was inaugurated on February 13 2011. Incidentally February 13 is World Radio Day. The PU station aired special programs to mark the occasion. Sumedha Singh, assistant professor in the department of School of Communication Studies, disclosed that several of the programmes have an avid following – especially those concerned with health. Tricity residents are very much aware of the programs and call-in programmes are popular.
Shiksha Ke Naye Ayam is another popular programme and usually features career counseling experts.
On the community radio’s first anniversary, 365 people were asked their opinion on the station and its programmes.
Their views will be broadcast along with a two-hour flashback programme Yadon Ke Jharokhe which will highlight events and programmes of the past two years. The community radio also takes feedback from listeners over the phone and by email.
They are giving many opportunities to young minds and preparing young RJ’s from schools and all strata of society, including the very poorest.
