Dr B P Singh, Head, National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) speaks to OneWorld South Asia ahead of the National Science Day which is celebrated on 28th February every year. The objective of celebrating Scinece Day is to popularise science and inculcate scientific temper in the country. In this interview Dr Singh shares about the various initiatives taken by Department of Science and Technology and NCSTC to promote science among rural households. Dr Singh eloquently spoke about the participation of women in science and measures taken by the government to popularise science among women.

This programme of Ek Duniya Ek Awaaz focuses on roundup of year 2012 on political, economic and social fronts. Through the eyes of experts, Jayati Ghosh and Gurpreet Mahajan, professors of Jawahar Lal Nehru University, listeners would come to know about the accomplishments and the failures, and what kind of strategies must be taken into account by the government to overcome those failures such as delay in Lokpal (Ombudsman) Bill, Food Security Bill and Women Reservation Bill. Gurpreet Mahajan said that at present, citizens especially youth want improved quality of life and also urged government to take stringent action against graft, which is becoming rampant across the country. Whereas Jayati Ghosh said that FDI policy in retail sector would harm people, who are poor. The initiative will only benefit high class people. Reacting on the recent incident that happened in southern part of Delhi, Mahajan called for better management by the police and associated agencies across India to curb issues like rape and eve teasing. She also asked countrymen to stand together for such cause and raise their voice on gender issues.
