About Ek Duniya Ek Awaaz
Listen to Ek Duniya Ek Awaaz programmes
Initiated in 2005, OneWorld South Asia’s multi-dimensional community oriented radio programme Ek Duniya Ek Awaaz (EDEA) achieved a milestone in July 2009 with the broadcast of its 200th episode on a popular mainstream channel - All India FM Rainbow (102.6 MHz), every Wednesday from 4.30 pm to 5.00 pm.
The programme incorporates capacity building workshops for Community Based Organisations (CBOs) in the use of audio tools as a means for social and economic empowerment, and for networking and content sharing.
Between August 2007 and March 2008, OneWorld South Asia initiated a nine-month long intensive capacity building programme for six NGOs in Delhi. Three member teams from these organisations have been trained in issue identification and scripting, recording people's voices and opinions, inteviewing experts and anchoring.
Our second capacity building programme initiated in August 2009 included partnerships with Jagori, Kislay, Pratham, Pravah Jaipur and the Centre for Youth Collectives (CYC).
OWSA closely supports each team in the production of radio programmes that are broadcast through Ek Duniya Ek Awaaz. The initiative has generated a lot of enthusiasm as these teams toil to consolidate and articulate their concerns about the issues and communities closest to their hearts.
Ek Duniya Ek Awaaz has established a place for itself in the poorest localities of Delhi as NGOs set up listener's clubs in various parts of the city. It is now known as a programme that highlights the voices of the poor for progress towards MDGs, especially in the context of inclusion and climate change.
Spurred by the outreach of Ek Duniya Ek Awaaz, other partners are beginning to use the medium of radio for enhanced outreach.
Collaborating with OneWorld South Asia, Wada Na Todo Abhiyan, the national campaign to hold the government of India accountable to its promise to end poverty, social exclusion and discrimination initiated a radio series Haq Hamara, Wada Tumara in October 2008, to raise awareness and mobilise people for realisation of the MDGs. The programme is broadcast on All India FM Rainbow (102.6 MHz), every alternate Friday from 4.30 pm to 5.00 pm.
Between August and June 2009 , Chetna, an organisation that works on Child Rights, in collaboration with OneWorld South Asia and Plan India, initiated and broadcast a 26 episode series Baat Nanhe Dilon Ki to advocate on issues of children and their rights.
