15-Aug-2011

Radio Jyotirgamaya paid tribute to the martyrs who made sacrifice for the country during freedom struggle through a special programme which was broadcast on the occasion of Independence Day.

Ludhiana, Punjab: In a tribute to the martyrs, who had laid down their lives during the freedom struggle, the students of Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, have prepared a special program to mark the Independence Day.

The one-hour program will begin at 8.30 am and will be divided into four categories - history, Bhagat Singh special, 'aks' and poetry recitation.

Surinder Kaur of BA final year has composed a poem based on the freedom struggle while for BSc second year student Varinder Kaur composing poetry for the Independence Day was not an easy task. It took a lot of efforts for her to compose a poem.

BSc final year student Palvinder Kaur said she had been performing on the college community radio for the past three years, but the kind of enthusiasm seen on this day was like never before. Chandandeep Kaur of BA first year, who would sing a Punjabi folk song on air for the first time, said; "I was excited and a little nervous too, but I have given my best and hopefully every one will like it."

MSc first year student Manpreet Kaur said she had been assigned 'aks' category where she would be presenting various revolutions that took place during the freedom struggle while Ramanjeet Kaur Brar of BA Second year said she would be highlighting the contribution of Shaheed Bhagat Singh during the fight for freedom.

Principal Charanjeet Kaur Mahal said they had started the community radio station in 2007 to give students a platform to express themselves and educate society on social issues.

"For the Independence Day, the students have prepared a special program that will be aired on August 15," she said.
